So how does this work? To start with, you get videos of 315 practice exercise combinations - one for each step in our tap dictionary (not including the tap dictionary’s 6 bonus steps). Each step gets its own short practice exercise combination (about 32 counts) with a slow clear breakdown. At the end of learning each practice exercise combination you’ll do the entire combination from start to finish at regular speed and then a little faster. In addition to all that you’ll get a PDF file with all the combinations and counts written out.
Keep in mind the purpose of the practice exercise combinations is to help you improve each step from our tap dictionary in a more interesting way than just doing the same step over and over.
In other words these aren’t designed to be flashy pieces of choreography but instead to allow you to work on steps in a more pleasurable way than just simple repetition. All combinations WORK BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT sides of a step when applicable (so a step like buffalo will be done on both right and left sides, but jumps on the other hand use both feet at once so there is no right and left side for jumps).
So is it an app?No it’s not, it’s a collection of 315 videos. The good news is this means you can use it on ANY device - iPhone, Android, iPad, Windows Mac, etc. And not just one device mind you, ALL of your devices. There’s no copy protection - we trust you:)
So how are the videos organized? All 315 combinations are split into 7 different levels from easiest to hardest (just like our tap dictionary). So level 1 has easy combinations for all the level 1 steps from our dictionary which are relatively easy. On the other hand the combinations for level 7 are quite difficult because they contain the very difficult level 7 tap steps from our dictionary. The PDF file you receive with the list of combinations and their counts is arranged in the exact order we recommend doing the combinations (the same as our syllabus).
Are the combinations written out? Yes they are and the counts are too! The written explanations are only available via PDF download (which you can then print).
Is it good for tap teachers?Tap teachers LOVE IT! It’s so great to have practice combinations for your class to do regardless of what level they are. It’s also helpful if you get stuck and need some ideas for patterns to work into your choreography.
Is it good for tap students? It’s AMAZING for tap students. First of all it gives them a chance to practice steps in a more interesting way than just doing the same step over and over. It also helps them learn how to connect different steps together and to work both the right and left sides.
